Exterior Weatherproofing
Breathable, snow- and UV-rated coatings that protect siding through Tahoe's long, brutal winters.
Exterior weatherproofing, log and cedar staining, and refined interiors for lakefront estates, mountain cabins, and second homes — on both the Nevada and California shores.
Painting at 6,200 feet is a different craft. Lake Tahoe's beauty comes with brutal conditions for any finish — feet of snow piled against siding, blinding alpine UV reflecting off the water, and a freeze-thaw cycle that can run most of the year. A coating that lasts a decade in the valley can fail in a few seasons up here if it isn't specified and applied for the mountains.
Ambition Painting builds every Tahoe project around that reality. We favor breathable, UV- and moisture-rated exterior systems, penetrating stains that let cedar and log walls move and shed water, and timing that respects the short high-country painting season. So much of Tahoe is wood — board-and-batten, log homes, cedar shake, big timber decks — that staining and sealing is as much our trade here as paint.
Many of these homes are vacation properties or rentals, so their owners aren't always on the mountain. We're set up for that: clear photo updates, secure access coordination, and a finished walkthrough you can trust whether you're in Incline Village or out of state. From a lakefront estate in Glenbrook to a Tahoe Donner cabin, the finish is built to survive winter and look the part by summer.
Most painters on the lake work the California shore. We're a Nevada contractor based just down the hill in Carson City — so the Nevada side of Tahoe is home turf. From the pines of Incline Village and Crystal Bay to the lakefront estates of Glenbrook, the cabins of Zephyr Cove and the resort homes of Stateline, we understand what alpine elevation, hard winters and intense UV do to a finish. We stain log and cedar to let the grain breathe, and we paint exteriors built to hold their color through the snow line and the thaw. A finish worthy of the home — and the view it frames.
As a Nevada-licensed contractor (Lic. #0086137), we bring exterior house painting, deck & fence staining, and cabinet refinishing to the Nevada side of the lake — explore all our painting services.

“I contacted several painters for estimates on the exterior of my house. After meeting with the owners, I was very pleased to go with Joel and Ambition Painting. The quality of work and professionalism of Joel and his crew was excellent — they arrived when they said they would and got the job done right as promised.”
The reliable exterior window at the lake runs roughly late spring through early fall, once overnight temperatures stay above freezing long enough for coatings to cure. We plan Tahoe exteriors around that season and the forecast, and keep interior, cabinet, and staining work moving through the shoulder months and winter.
Yes — wood finishing is core to what we do at Tahoe. We use penetrating, breathable stains and sealers that let log and cedar walls expand, contract, and shed moisture instead of trapping it, which is what causes peeling and rot at altitude. We can also strip and refresh tired, graying stain back to a rich, even tone.
We spec coatings rated for high-UV, high-moisture mountain exposure, pay special attention to the snow line and any wood that sits in snowpack, and seal the vulnerable spots — post bottoms, deck boards, and north faces that stay damp. Proper prep and the right product are what make a finish survive a Tahoe winter.
We work within them. Many Tahoe communities have approved color palettes, and the basin has environmental and defensible-space rules; we'll match your HOA's required colors and keep the project compliant with local guidelines. If you're unsure what applies to your property, we can help you sort it out before we start.
Definitely — a large share of our Tahoe work is second homes and short-term rentals. We coordinate secure access, send photo progress updates, and do a documented final walkthrough, so you can approve the result from anywhere and have the place guest-ready for the next booking.
We cover the full basin and ridge — Incline Village, Crystal Bay, Kings Beach, Tahoe City, Carnelian Bay, Glenbrook, Zephyr Cove, Stateline, and South Lake Tahoe, plus Tahoe Donner and Truckee — on both the Nevada and California sides of the lake.
We do. Ambition Painting is a Nevada-licensed contractor (Lic. #0086137) based just down the hill in Carson City, so the Nevada shore — Incline Village, Crystal Bay, Zephyr Cove, Stateline, and Glenbrook — is home turf. We finish log, cedar, and conventional cabins for snow, intense UV, and the freeze-thaw of alpine elevation.
A penetrating, breathable stain rather than a film-forming paint. It soaks into log and cedar so the wood can move and shed moisture instead of trapping it, which is what causes peeling and rot at altitude. We clean and prep first, then re-stain on a schedule that keeps the grain protected and the color even.
Thin mountain air, big temperature swings, and intense UV change how interior paint dries, cures, and holds its color — and where DIY jobs fail.
